In a metaphorical “culinary” landscape, recipes as narratives—texts—images can function as methods of investigation, combining ingredients and techniques that sometimes lead to harmonious “flavors” and other times to interesting “failed” dishes. Even if we are speaking of ethical stance, political position, or personal choice, the creation of these recipes opens a discussion about survival within an established environment or the formation of new structures. Education, often hiding rather than revealing the “ingredients,” leaves the artist constantly searching for the mistake in the “sugar” or the “salt.” Recording such recipes—sometimes concealing, sometimes revealing—can form a series of narrative works, recomposing materials, people, and practices in an unexpected yet compelling way.
