artist book installation and audiovisual performance inspired by Yoko Ono’s “Grapefruit”
The performance forms a massive artist book, its words and structure evolving in real-time following Ono’s iconic instructions. It is accompanied by a carefully curated blend of visuals and sounds, inspired by Ono’s artistic narrative. These elements enhance the sensory experience, resonating with the tone and message of each instruction being brought to life.
At the core of the performance lies a projection of a reimagined outcome of Ono’s Grapefruit, created through a digitally recorded reading where verbal mistakes reshape the original text. A computer-generated voice issues distorted instructions, while the artist responds in real time on a large sheet of paper covering the wall. Words, drawings, and marks gradually bring the surface to life, forming an evolving artist’s book. As the performance concludes, the paper is folded into a publication, and the audience actively participates by cutting, holding, or sharing pieces, shaping the final collective creation. The completed book remains as an interactive installation, inviting exploration and reflection.
